A thousand and one stories on our routes

Each of our hiking trails tells a different story.

The Ruta do Ferrocarril shows us the history and the route taken by the only mining train that existed in Galicia. It was constructed between 1901 and 1903 to give access to a Cantabrian Sea Port, for minerals mined in the Vilaoudriz Iron Mines.

The Ruta das Minas shows us the the largely original environment in which those early miners of the 20th century carried out their work. With a lot of effort and sacrifice, they managed to successfully extract the minerals hidden in the bowels of this earth.

The Ruta dos Fornos shows us what the kilns were like and the calcination process that was carried out to eliminate the phosphorus contained in the iron carbonates, making it suitable for transformation into steel in the large steel mills of England and Germany.

The Ruta da Férrea shows us how the A Férrea stream circumvents the difficult geography by means of a meandering route including two great simultaneous waterfalls, falling 7 or 8 meters each.

The Ruta de As Reigadas and Ruta da Seimeira, show us the physiognomy of our mountains and what the forests, known as Fragas for having only native trees, were like in Galicia before arrival of other faster growing foreign species .
